Banksy is an anonymous graffiti artist born in Bristol, England. He is known for his anti-authoritarian art, often performed in public places. Despite his rise to fame, Banksy remained anonymous. His rare interviews were conducted in reply by email or tape with an altered voice, according to Britannica. He remained devoted to street art and said living in a city where graffiti was legal was "like a party where everyone is invited." This led to the unauthorized display or reproduction of Artists. Instead, Banksy applied to trademark his work in 2014 and later founded Gross Domestic Product, a temporary shop selling merchandise inspired by his art. His previous record was at Christie's 20th Century Art Evening Sale in London on March 23, 2021, where he sold for £14.4m, playing with a Nurse doll instead of Batman or Spider-Man toys. Banksy is widely believed to be Robin Gunningham, first identified in The Mail on Sunday in 2008, born in Yate, 12 miles (19 km) from Bristol, as per reports from smithsonianmag.com. At this time, he was experimenting with names, even signing Robin Banks, but this soon evolved into Banksy. Maybe not, but it was more memorable and easier to write on the wall.
